A modern platform for trade and production in the heart of the Mediterranean region.

Special Economic Zones

Simplified bureaucracy and administrative procedures, a favourable tax regime, and export tax exemption. These are the primary features of the legislation regulating Italian SEZs, which will encourage new opportunities in the Mediterranean!

To support this progress, a National Plan will be implemented to develop port and railway infrastructures, in order to create fast connections to the rest of Europe while fulfilling ecological and digital transitions.

IT is one common vision to attract investments from large national and international groups, while each SEZ will maintain its own vocation in terms of production and logistics, so as to create synergy and multiply opportunities for investors.

IT is a facilitated network

Did you know that a container crossing the Suez Canal takes less time to reach a city in central Europe if it docks in Naples?

IT is wonder

The Special Economic Zones are much more than promising areas with huge growth potential. They are a door to extraordinary assets: natural beauty, mild climate, culture, agri-food excellences, and high quality products.

The result?

All international investors who want to associate their businesses with a pleasant lifestyle will find Southern Italy the perfect place.

The 8 Italian SEZs

Abruzzo

Pharmaceuticals, personal care, ICT and aerospace: these are only a few of the key sectors that will be the protagonists of the new opportunities brought by the SEZ legislation in Abruzzo, which hosts the ‘Gran Sasso Science Institute’.

Campania

An intermodal logistic area with two main ports and two large freight villages, combining rail, road, air and water transport, as well as storage, handling and production of goods. In this area, activities centred on the circular economyengineeringshipbuilding, and quality agri-food have great potential for development.

Adriatic

The activities in this SEZ are strongly intertwined with renewable energy resources and hydrogen. Maintaining and fostering a green economy is key for the SEZ-related programme, and helps preserve the beauty of the region.

Ionian

The Ionian region’s capacity to attract investments in the existing robust industry of energy conversion towards a greener route would be enhanced. This will result in an industrial renovation from which the automotive, bioeconomy, and creative industries will all benefit greatly.

Calabria

Gioia Tauro hosts the biggest transhipment terminal port for the Mediterranean. Many activities are being developed around it, including the agri-food sector, the engineering industry, and collaboration between universities and research centres.

Eastern Sicily

The ‘Catania Etna Valley’ is technological excellence – and much more! This SEZ hosts a strategic pole of the green transition and an agri-food central district.

Western Sicily

Western Sicily’s ports serve as Europe’s gateway to Africa. This vital link has the potential to be a valuable asset in the logistics business. An important biomedical centre is also located in the region.

Sardinia

Sardinia’s favourable position supports the entrepreneurial vocation of the SEZ, which is the perfect representation of the ‘sea economy’. The new investments will also promote and add further value to traditional agri-food productions.

Say IT

How do you say IT?

Made in Italy is often used as a synonym for quality. But, there’s a lot more to it!  Let’s take a look at some Italian terms that unveil the distinctive qualities of Italian products and services.

Ultimo Miglio

/ˈultimo ˈmiʎʎo/

Last Mile

The ‘last mile’ is the final connection between the port, industrial areas and rail infrastructures. Maintaining a robust, functional network among them is essential to assist productive areas in regulating logistics and reducing cost.

SEZ at the EXPO 2020 Dubai

The Minister for Southern Italy and Territorial Cohesion, Hon. Mara Carfagna, presented the SEZs at the Dubai EXPO 2020 Italian Pavilion, highlighting the incredible opportunities that lie ahead: as an efficient network, SEZs will benefit from a strategic position in the Mediterranean and strengthen connections with the rest of the world.
